Prep Time: 15 min Cook Time: 3:00 hours Serves: 4 people
Supplies
When I season my ground turkey, I season it in a large bowl. I used a large knife and a cutting board to cut up the garlic, onions and green peppers. You'll also need a crock pot for this recipe. Mine has seen many delicious meals and I'm thinking about upgrading it. If you don't have one, you can buy one from Macy's, Target, or Walmart. You'll also need a large non-stick skillet to sauté your fresh vegetables and brown your turkey meat.
Ingredients
2.5 lb. ground turkey
1 large bell pepper chopped
1 large onion chopped
3 cloves of garlic chopped
1 cup of chopped celery (optional, I actually didn't use them in this recipe)
chopped spring onions (topping)
1 15 oz. cans of navy beans (low sodium)
2 15 oz. cans of red kidney beans (low sodium)
1 1/2 cups of kale
2 basil leaves
15 oz. can of diced tomatoes
15 oz. can tomato sauce
28 oz. can of crushed tomatoes
4 small red tomatoes (diced)
Greek yogurt (for topping to replace sour cream)
Shredded Cheddar Cheese (or vegan cheese)
Olive oil (for sautéing)
32 oz. chicken broth (optional, low sodium)
2 tbsp. sea moss gel
2 tbsp. jalapeño seasoning
2 tbsp. cumin
1 tbsp. ground black pepper
2 tbsp. garlic powder
1 tbsp. onion powder
2 1/2 tbsp. chili powder
Instructions
Dice your garlic, green pepper and onions. Add olive oil to the pan and sauté them until they become fragrant and soften. Set to the side as you season your ground turkey.
Next, generously season your ground turkey with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and chili powder. Add the ground turkey into the same non stick skillet you sautéed your garlic, onions and green peppers in. Brown it just slightly and vigorously chop it into crumbles to combine all the flavors. Then place it out of the way as you prepare you homemade sauce.
Home Made Chili Sauce
Add your tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes and fresh diced tomatoes to a large pot. Next, slowly pour in the chicken broth and stir it all together.
Season your sauce, with salt, pepper, cumin, garlic powder, and jalapeño seasoning to taste. If you are adding sea moss gel, add it now.
Next, combine the ground turkey, and beans into the sauce and add all ingredients into the crock pot. Next, fold in the kale.
Add the basil leaves, before closing the lid.
Turn the crockpot on high for 3 hours, stirring occasionally and tasting, adding additional seasonings as needed.
When serving, top with chopped spring onions, a dollop of Greek yogurt to replace sour cream and shredded cheddar cheese.
Enjoy!!!
